英国の家には、大抵の場合、フロントガーデンとバックガーデンがあるの。

フロントガーデンは家の玄関側にあり、道路から見えるようになっているんだけど、バックガーデンは非常にプライベートな場所なのよ。

私(フィオナ）の家はちょっと変わっているの。

家の裏に細い道があるから、家の真裏にまずコートヤードガーデン(前回お見せしたわね）があって、そこを出で道を渡ると、バックガーデンの入り口になるというわけ。　

実際はガレージがバックガーデンの入り口になるの。ガレージの向こうにちょっとだけグリーンが見えるでしょ？

Usually in England we have a front garden and a back garden. The front garden people can see from the road, but the back garden is private. In our case their is a road on the back of the house, so I have a courtyard garden and then across the road is the entrance to the back garden.

Actually there is a garage for the car and you can see the garden through the garage.

右には、古い流し台。家で使っていた古いものは、機能性や装飾性があれば庭に利用するのよ。

On the right there is an old sink. It's quite common to use house items in the garden, if they are functional or decorative.

これは古い煙突。こちらではよく花を植えたりしているわ。もっとも最近ではすごく高くなってしまったけど。

This old chimney pot is another common example. these days they are very expensive to buy!

家の近くには、レクラメーション・センターという、外用のリサイクルショップみたいなものがあって、アンティークなグッズを見つけるのが楽しいの。

There is a reclamation centre near our home where we can buy this kind of antique.

庭は細長いわ。The garden is long and narrow.

突き当りの椅子があるフェンスの向こうには植物に隠れたもう一つの庭があって、池とベンチがあるのよ！

At the end of the garden there is a pond and another seating area hidden by the fence and plants.
