今日は友人のポールとポールの飼い犬、ブラッドリーの庭を訪ねてみた。　
ポールは熱心なガーデナーとは言えないけど、すっきりしていてドッグフレンドリーな庭をつくっているんだよ。

Paul Dyer & Bradley the Dog's garden. Paul is not a keen gardener, but likes his garden to be tidy, presentable and dog friendly.

ポールの家は１９３８年頃に建てられたもので、小さなフロントガーデン（約10ｍ×５m）と、大きめのバックガーデン（約15ｍ×5ｍ）がある。
どちらもメインは芝庭で、生垣に囲まれている。

ポールはガーデニング好きな方ではないが、庭がすっきりしているのが好みなので、もともとあった伝統的な花壇などを取り除いてローメンテナンスなものに変えてきたんだ。

犬にやさしく、安全な境界を確保するために、小さなフェンスやロートアイアンのゲートなども加えたそうだ。

Paul's house dates from around 1938 and has a small front garden (approx 10 metres x 5 metres) and a larger rear garden (approx 15 metres x 5 metres). Each of the two gardens is mainly lawn surrounded by hedging.

Although Paul's not a keen garden, he does prefer his gardens to be tidy and reasonably presentable. He's tried to improve the look of the garden by removing traditional flower beds and replacing them with low maintenance features.

The garden needs to be dog friendly and includes a secure boundary. This has been achieved with small fences and the addition of a wrought-iron gate.

家の前にはコンクリートが敷いてあるんだけど、ちょっと斜めになっているから、そこに椅子なんかを置いて座るわけにはいかなかったらしい。
南に面して日当たりがいい場所なので、そのコンクリートはそのままにちょっとしたデッキを作り、水平な場所にしたんだそうだ。

At the front of the house there is a concrete apron, but because it was sloping, was not really suitable for use as a sitting out area. As this area is south facing, and a "sun-trap" in the Spring and Summer months, he wanted to improve the area, and decided to fit a simple deck whilst making it level.
